                    A panoramic view of the present reveals that neither art criticism nor local art history (with some notable exceptions) are up to the challenge. While the first agonizes, decimated and comatose, and in its most
                      innocuous version is mainly devoted to reviews; the second fails to take shape as an institutionalized discipline, and because it doesn’t exist, it does not even appear as an order worthy of being subverted, being just a
                      fledgling collection of writings, very laudable in some cases, which are too dependent on discontinuous initiatives and extremely specific efforts. Rather than lament this fate, maybe we should use it in our favor and research
                      and opine with renewed energy without being so compliant. Short-cutting cross-country. Questioning chronologies. Doing, combining and asking what one supposedly shouldn’t. Attempting to read images as texts and texts as images.
                      Narrating things obliquely. Taking notes and leaving records. Proposing the visual essay.
